When it comes to young people making a meaningful impact in their communities, Andra Campos stands out. Known for her problem-solving mindset and unwavering commitment to helping others, she has become a role model for today’s youth.
“I’m the author of Math Speaks: Discovering the wonders of Mathematics in Everyday Life, and the developer of both Project Connect Forum, my website and SunScan, an app that won the Congressional App Challenge for one of California’s districts. I’m looking forward to gaining the education and resources to expand Project Connect Forum and make an even greater difference.” Andra shared.
Andra launched Project Connect Forum as a platform for students to find opportunities and connect with one another. Initially, she only expected to help only a small number of people. However, within just a few months, the platform reached over 45,000 students. Reflecting on this rapid growth, she admitted, “My goal was to help even a small number of people, so reaching over 45,000 students in just a few months was beyond anything I imagined.”
When asked about the inspiration behind the project, she cheerfully recalled, “It came to me during a simple car ride, shortly after watching The Social Network. I started wondering, 'Why don’t more students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, have access to something like this?'”
Reaching over 45,000 students in such a short time is no mean feat by any means. Yet, rather than resting on her laurels, Andra feels an even stronger drive to keep going. “The fact that Project Connect has resonated with so many people highlights a real need, and it motivates me to keep addressing it. It’s also a reminder that there’s so much more work to be done, and I’m excited to continue expanding the platform to help even more students,” she emphasized.
Andra believes the true impact of Project Connect lies in its ability to connect students worldwide with opportunities they might never have discovered otherwise. She remarked, “I’m proud that it not only helps students find opportunities but also opens their eyes to diverse possibilities, empowering them to make meaningful contributions in ways that align with their passions.” For her, the greatest accomplishment is seeing students step beyond the boundaries of their immediate environments, discovering what truly resonates with them—or even realizing what doesn’t.
For young people looking to create a lasting impact on a national scale, Andra offers advice that is simple yet deeply meaningful: “The biggest hurdle you’ll ever face isn’t achieving massive milestones like reaching 40,000 users on your platform or maintaining a social media presence—It’s simply getting started.” Her message reinforces the notion that passion and energy will sustain one in success. But to begin, it requires a leap.
Andra’s journey proves just how far passion, dedication, and the courage to embrace the unknown can take young leaders. With Project Connect Forum, she hasn’t just impacted over 45,000 youths. She’s sparked a movement, inspiring countless others to push past their comfort zones and engage with organizations they once thought out of reach.
